About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Medical Assistant II in Sleep Medicine, located in downtown Indianapolis. The role operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with no weekend or holiday work. The clinic is described as having a family-focused, close-knit team with an outgoing, fun, and family-like culture. It is a supportive and team-oriented environment with a team of 7 Medical Assistants. The position is primarily administrative and phone-based, with up to 40 in-person patients on the busiest day and over 60 virtual patients per day. This role may not be a fit for individuals seeking hands-on skills like blood draws or injections, as these are not performed in this clinic. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous MA experience preferred
  • Will consider experienced non-certified candidates for a MA I position
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Room patients (basic vitals only)
  • Work EMR messages with patients and providers
  • Call patients for virtual visits
  • Support high-volume virtual care
  • Perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction
  • Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assure smooth patient flow
  • Perform general lab work
  • Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
