About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Medical Assistant II in an OB/GYN practice serving women of all ages. The clinic utilizes a relationship-based, patient-centered care model and has a team of 16 Medical Assistants. The role involves direct patient care and clinical direction, ensuring the completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, facilitating smooth patient flow, performing general lab work, instructing patients, and ensuring medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner. The position also includes registration and scheduling activities, maintaining EMR files, and performing general front office functions. There is an expectation to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • Requires current MA certification or pending certification with test date scheduled
  • Certified Medical Assistant (certification required)
  • Reliable, dependable attendance
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and assist providers during visits
  • Obtain and document vital signs and patient histories
  • Perform blood draws and point-of-care testing (e.g., urine tests)
  • Call patients with instructions, results, or follow-ups
  • Partner closely with providers to deliver high-quality patient care
  • Perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction
  • Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assure smooth patient flow
  • Perform general lab work
  • Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
