About The Position

Medical Assistant II-Multi-Specialty Clinic. This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position with day shifts, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with Thursdays from 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM. No weekends or IUH observed holidays. The clinic supports 5 specialties and offers a hands-on role with in-house phlebotomy. It's a close-knit, small team that works collaboratively in a relaxed, easy-going clinic pace. The role involves patient rooming, frequent phlebotomy, a balance of 80% clinical and 20% administrative work, and cross-training to support the front office as needed. This position is ideal for strong multi-taskers who are self-driven and proactive, and team-oriented individuals who enjoy building relationships. The majority of time is spent on rooming and phlebotomy, with support from a small team of Medical Assistants. Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills

Nice To Haves

  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient rooming (typically supporting one provider at a time)
  • Conduct frequent phlebotomy
  • Balance of 80% clinical / 20% administrative work
  • Cross-train to support front office as needed
  • Perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction
  • Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assure smooth patient flow
  • Perform general lab work
  • Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
