About The Position

The Medical Assistant I provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons and performs patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course
  • Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred
  • Venipuncture skills required
  • EKG skills required
  • Certificate of Medical Assistant training or equivalent
  • BCLS certification – Required

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care responsibilities such as venipuncture, EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting patients with mobility and dressing, collecting and processing specimens, and point of care testing.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and assists physicians with various procedures.
  • Takes vital signs and relays instructions to patients and families.
  • Answers calls and provides pertinent information.
  • Performs clerical duties including managing patient medical records, obtaining reports and referral information, completing forms, and filing information appropriately.
  • Enters orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepares prescription refill requests for physician approval.
  • Manages inventory, orders, and restocks medical supplies.
  • Sets up examination rooms and instruments, ensuring proper sterilization techniques.
  • Maintains logging systems for refrigeration, point of care testing, sterilization, crash carts, etc.
  • Checks and disposes of expired medications and medical supplies according to policy.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
  • Complies with personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Assists in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing reports and test results.
  • May schedule surgeries/procedures, verify times with patients, and prepare necessary forms.
  • May perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
  • May perform appointment scheduling, patient registration, and update demographic and insurance information.
  • May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
  • May check, verify, and update insurance information.
  • May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
