About The Position

The Medical Assistant, under general supervision, assists patients within an outpatient primary care clinic. Conducts basic office-based medical tasks, including the measurement and collection of vital signs and patient medical histories. Serves as a medical instrument technician, conducting instrumentation cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of experience in medical office, hospital, nursing home or home health setting
  • Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within six months of employment
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines, general understanding of electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Experience in a clinical setting.
  • Experience with Texas Vaccines for Children Program
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and HIPAA guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care activities on a daily basis.
  • Transfers patients from reception to patient care areas, measures vital signs, interviews patients for medical records, assists and/or chaperones physician during exams or procedures, administers injections, dispenses medications, transfers specimen, documents testing and lab results in medical records.
  • Schedules visits and shots, performs research related activities, and documents other activities in the electronic medical records.
  • Ensures cleanliness of exam and treatment rooms, exam tables, counter tops, and doorknobs to prevent spread of infection in patient care areas.
  • Stocks patient care rooms and nurses’ stations weekly and as needed.
  • Participates in documentation of patient care.
  • Updates health information in electronic medical records.
  • Assists Physicians in maintenance of electronic medical records.
  • Fills in for others and performs other duties as assigned to assist other team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
