About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, the Medical Assistant will perform non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patient care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established policies & procedures, and techniques. The supervising licensed practitioner must be physically present in the treatment facility for the Medical Assistant to perform non-invasive technical supportive services. The Medical Assistant also provides a variety of administrative, assistive & supportive clinical and outreach activities. The Medical Assistant cannot evaluate or synthesize data.

Requirements

  • Completion of a secondary or postsecondary Medical Assistant education program from a public school authorized by the Department of Education, or an approved Medical Assistant program at a postsecondary institution accredited or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
  • Displays qualities of dependability and reliability, be willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
  • Able to communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity; with staff, patients, and family members.
  • Write and print legibly.
  • Be well groomed and display mature behavior.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
  • Maintain or exceed Medical Assistant competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate through written and oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she can identify and categorize each patient's age-specific group needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
  • Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).
  • Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) and must complete the mandatory Medical Interpretation course offered at NEVHC.
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and another patient/client information.
  • Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is preferred.
  • Possess a minimum of one full year's paid experience in Gynecology and/or Obstetrics services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patient care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established policies & procedures, and techniques.
  • Provide a variety of administrative, assistive & supportive clinical and outreach activities.
  • Demonstrate competency in the usage of clinical equipment and Point of Care testing (e.g., pregnancy test, urine dip, etc.) within ninety days of employment (for Family Medicine and Women's Health positions).
  • Have knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and process.
  • Pass the Family Planning Health Worker written and video certification within six months of employment (for Women's Health positions).
  • Utilize electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments.
