About The Position

Father Joe's Villages is hiring for both Medical Assistant I and Medical Assistant II positions. Candidates will be hired at the level that best aligns with their qualifications, experience, certifications, and demonstrated competencies. This is a full-time position based within the Village Health Center, an integrated Federally Qualified Health Center serving individuals experiencing homelessness and other medically underserved populations. Work is performed in a fast-paced clinical environment and involves collaboration with medical providers, behavioral health clinicians, laboratory staff, care teams, and support staff to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care. While the typical schedule is Monday through Friday, occasional schedule adjustments may be required to support clinic operations, patient care needs, specialty services, and organizational priorities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current Medical Assistant certification required, including completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or ability to obtain BLS within the required time frame upon hire
  • Knowledge of medical assisting practices, clinical workflows, patient care procedures, infection prevention, safety standards, HIPAA requirements, and clinical documentation practices
  • Ability to build positive relationships with patients from diverse backgrounds and life experiences
  • Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, prioritization, and teamwork skills in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Proficiency using electronic health record systems and healthcare technology
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, patient-centered, and culturally responsive care
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary care team
  • Commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability with compassion, respect, empathy, empowerment, and dignity
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory, outpatient, primary care, specialty care, or integrated healthcare setting required (for MA II)
  • Experience supporting care coordination activities, including medication reconciliation, refill workflows, care gap identification, referrals, follow-up, and related communication (for MA II)
  • Experience supporting specialty services, medication administration, immunizations, injections, laboratory operations, and required logs (for MA II)
  • Experience with laboratory services, specimen collection and processing, and/or phlebotomy is strongly preferred (for MA II)

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, health histories, and visit information
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures
  • Assist medical providers and behavioral health clinicians during patient visits
  • Collect, label, process, and prepare laboratory specimens in accordance with established procedures
  • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms, equipment, and clinical supplies
  • Support patient flow, appointment scheduling, reminders, referrals, and follow-up activities
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Support communication with patients, pharmacies, laboratories, providers, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Follow infection control, safety, quality, and documentation standards
  • Contribute to a patient-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care environment
  • Support care coordination activities, including medication reconciliation, refill workflows, care gap identification, referrals, follow-up, and related communication
  • Support medication administration, immunizations, injections, specialty services, and designated clinical programs within scope of practice
  • Maintain laboratory, phlebotomy, quality assurance, maintenance, and temperature logs in accordance with established requirements
  • Assist with onboarding, day-to-day training, and cross-training activities for Medical Assistant I staff
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, workflow enhancements, and cross-functional clinic operations
