About The Position

Responsible for assisting physicians/providers with patient care, rooming patients, and performing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the practice services. Conveys a positive image of the practice.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must meet one of the following requirements: graduation from an accredited medical assistant (MA) certificate program or Phlebotomy program, certification as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), or paramedic.
  • Employees who join YNHHS through a merger or acquisition may satisfy educational requirements by demonstrating the appropriate combination of education, relevant experience, and current competencies.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a medical assistant (MA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), ambulatory care associate (ACA), patient care associate/technician (PCA/PCT), paramedic, or phlebotomist required.
  • New graduates from an accredited medical assistant certificate program, with less than one (1) year of experience, will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification/registration (CCMA/CMA/AAMA/RMA) preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care responsibilities as assigned, including identifying self to patient/family, explaining roles of care delivery team, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, preparing patients (vital signs, height, weight, blood pressure, EKG, specimen collection, phlebotomy, INR, pulse oximetry, spirometry), documenting medical and surgical history, family history, social history, problem list, and medications in EPIC, performing screenings, assisting with procedures, obtaining pre-authorizations, conveying instructions, providing resource materials and referrals, maintaining patient records, managing and checking the EPIC in-basket, and answering/returning calls.
  • Performs administrative responsibilities as assigned, including sending/receiving patient medical records, abstracting new patient records into EPIC, obtaining lab/radiology reports, hospital notes, and referral information, completing forms/requisitions, and performing front desk duties such as greeting patients/visitors, answering calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining/scanning patient medical records.
  • Performs environmental responsibilities as assigned, including setting up instruments and equipment, applying principles of infection control, cleaning exam/procedures rooms, instruments, and equipment, cleaning the sterilizer, and ordering, sorting, and storing supplies.
  • Performs other related organizational duties as assigned, including maintaining patient autonomy, confidentiality, and dignity, ensuring timely and accurate billing, maintaining knowledge of practice policy, HIPAA, current coding, OSHA regulations, and CLIA regulations, providing prompt attention to urgent and non-urgent patient issues, sharing problems with the supervisor, working with the Care Coordinator for Patient Centered Medical Home initiatives, attending and participating in staff meetings, collaborating in the development and delivery of health promotion and disease prevention programs, contributing to quality improvement activities, advocating on behalf of vulnerable individuals and populations, contributing to an educational work environment, collaborating in developing a work environment for continuous quality improvements, utilizing appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds, and coordinating efforts to gain patient and family feedback.
  • May assist and/or perform chaperone duties for patient medical procedures as needed.
  • May perform other duties as required.
