About The Position

North Florida Surgeons- Baptist South division is looking for an energetic, patient focused Medical Assistant/Front Desk team member. NFS - Baptist South is a growing 5 Surgeon General Surgery Practice. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy surgical practice! We are located in the Office Side of Baptist South Hospital. North Florida Surgeons Baptist South Division offers great benefits, competitive wages and opportunities for growth. The General Surgery Medical Assistant bridges patient care and clinic administration. In this role, you support surgeons in both outpatient clinics and surgical centers by managing patient intake, prepping examination/procedure rooms, assisting during minor procedures, and processing surgical paperwork.

Requirements

Must be dynamic, energetic, and detail oriented
We are looking for a self-starter possessing strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
The applicant must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to multi-task
Complies with all Federal, State, HIPPA, and OSHA guidelines as well as organizational policies and procedures
Proficiency in Microsoft office software, especially Excel, Outlook, Word
Must demonstrate superior customer service skills and communicating with patients in a courteous, professional, cooperative and respectful manner.
Must provide two professional references including preferred mode of contact.
High school diploma or GED required, alongside the completion of an accredited medical assisting program.

Nice To Haves

Prior medical/healthcare experience with at least one major EMR/EHR system, Availity, and familiarity with methods involved in obtaining prior authorizations and insurance eligibility is preferred
Customer service: 1 year (Preferred)
Medical terminology: 1 year (Preferred)

Responsibilities

Record vital signs, review medications, and document the chief complaint in Athena.
Sterilize and prepare medical equipment, lay out sterile instruments, and set up the sterile field for minor surgeries.
Chaperone the surgeon during physical exams, pass surgical instruments, apply pressure for hemostasis (bleeding control), and assist with wound care or dressing changes.
Collect and label laboratory specimens
Schedule surgeries, coordinate diagnostic testing, and ensure patients have completed necessary consent forms.
Manage patient charts, process prior authorizations, and assist with billing/coding data entry.
Instruct patients on pre-surgery preparation and post-operative wound care and discharge instructions.
