About The Position

Northwell Health and GoHealth Urgent Care are operating urgent care centers across the Hudson Valley / Western Connecticut regions. At Northwell-GoHealth Urgent Care, the focus is on placing patient needs first by providing an effortless patient experience, a welcoming culture of care, and seamless integration with market-leading health systems and communities. The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. They manage the check-in and registration process, interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patient charts. This role may also involve drawing and collecting blood samples and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, as well as preparing treatment rooms for examinations. The "Float" designation means the Medical Assistant is scheduled at different locations on different days but remains at one location for the entire workday. These locations may include Kingston, Lagrangeville, Fishkill, Poughkeepsie, Carmel, and Wappingers Falls.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Ability to type quickly.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Able to rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Able to participate on a team and accomplish goals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect and sensitivity to cultural/social difference.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Front Desk experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider.
  • Manage the check-in and registration process, including securing required paperwork and insurance documentation, and verification of insurance and patient eligibility.
  • Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments for the assigned center.
  • Coordinate provider referrals to assigned Specialists.
  • Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status.
  • Inform technical staff of patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information, record medical history, and confirm the purpose of the visit.
  • Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to the provider as needed.
  • Conduct point of care testing as needed (e.g., flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to the provider.
  • Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have the medical supplies needed.
  • Complete order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels and regularly check expiration dates on supplies.
  • Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files.
  • Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence.
  • Ensure the reception area is well maintained.
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building.
  • Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
