The extern will shadow the preceptor when performing various administrative and clinical tasks, with permission from the patient. This includes assisting with patient flow, greeting and escorting patients, performing clerical tasks, restocking supplies, and handling medical equipment. Clinically, the extern will learn about patient/staff experience initiatives, quality control documentation, taking vital signs, performing EKGs, height and weight measurements, performing/observing point of care rapid testing, performing urinalysis, urine culture, and pregnancy testing, and understanding infection control.
