About The Position

The extern will shadow the preceptor when performing various administrative and clinical tasks, with permission from the patient. This includes assisting with patient flow, greeting and escorting patients, performing clerical tasks, restocking supplies, and handling medical equipment. Clinically, the extern will learn about patient/staff experience initiatives, quality control documentation, taking vital signs, performing EKGs, height and weight measurements, performing/observing point of care rapid testing, performing urinalysis, urine culture, and pregnancy testing, and understanding infection control.

Requirements

Must be a student extern shadowing a preceptor.
Must obtain patient permission before performing tasks.
Must adhere to infection control protocols.

Responsibilities

Shadow preceptor in performing administrative tasks such as assisting with patient flow, greeting and escorting patients, answering phones, burning CDs, proper disposal of HPI, restocking supplies, and proper handling of medical equipment.
Shadow preceptor in performing clinical tasks including patient/staff experience initiatives, quality control documentation, taking vital signs, performing EKGs, height and weight measurements, performing/observing point or care rapid testing, performing urinalysis, urine culture, and pregnancy testing, and understanding infection control.
