About The Position

This position is located in Cheyenne with occasional training in Laramie. The Medical Assistant works under the direction and supervision of a provider to obtain, verify, and update patient information and health history. They chart patient information into the medical record as reported by the patient and assist the provider in the exam room as directed. This includes assisting with minor surgical procedures, surgical tray set-up, pre/post-surgical patient care, and suture removal. The Medical Assistant also assists patients to exam rooms, measures vital signs, and documents all information in the patient's EHR. They are responsible for utilizing the computer system for patient registration, appointment scheduling, ordering lab tests, receiving specimens, performing EKGs, Point of Care testing, phlebotomy, handling specimens, performing dressing changes, and other duties specific to certain specialties. Additionally, they handle patient phone calls, relay patient questions to the provider, return patient calls, check patients in and out, schedule appointments, send/receive medical records, and enter outside lab results into the EMR. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least one (1) year in healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience in an outpatient clinic setting preferred.
  • Healthcare experience required for uncertified Medical Assistants
  • Must have current, valid BLS upon hire or must obtain within 60 days of hire, and must maintain credential throughout employment with IMH.
  • Ability to learn and efficiently use an electronic medical health record (EHR).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers and the general public verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Partial college education preferred.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification preferred
  • Obtaining Medical Assistant certification within one year of hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and health history.

  • Properly utilizes the computer system for patient registration, appointment scheduling, ordering lab tests, receiving specimens, etc.
  • Perform EKG’s, Point of Care testing, phlebotomy, handles specimens, performs dressing changes, and completes a variety of other duties specific to certain specialties.
  • Receiving patient phone calls, relaying patient questions to provider, returning patient calls at direction of provider, checking patients in and out for appointments, scheduling patient appointments, sending/receiving medical records, and entry of outside lab results into EMR.
  • Other duties as assigned.
