Wentworth Health Partners (WHP), an affiliate of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and member of Mass General Brigham Medical Group, offers Endocrinology and Diabetes Care at our state-of-the-art facility at 10 Members Way in Dover, NH. This practice provides care for patients with endocrine conditions, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, and a broad spectrum of other hormonal disorders. Our expert team of clinical and administrative professionals focus on specialized diagnostics and treatment, including advanced patient education programs to assist individuals looking to improve their health and enjoy a better quality of life. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to join our Endocrinology team, working Monday through Friday with staggered shifts between 7:30 AM and 5:15 PM As true partners to our nurses and providers, our Medical Assistants have the opportunity to work autonomously at the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of a collaborative team. This is a busy Endocrinology practice where the MA will gain hands-on experience downloading insulin pumps, glucose meters, and sensors; performing point-of-care testing including blood glucose and A1Cs; administering injections; and assisting with sterile procedures. Medical Assistants rotate supporting our providers, offering valuable opportunities to collaborate, build skills, gain exposure to different practice styles, and expand clinical knowledge in a fast-paced specialty setting. We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned practices and locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances for cross-coverage purposes and to ensure adequate coverage and support. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for success in this position.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, as well as collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred
  • Requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider for immunizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
  • Downloading insulin pumps, glucose meters, and sensors.
  • Performing point-of-care testing including blood glucose and A1Cs.
  • Administering injections.
  • Assisting with sterile procedures.
