About The Position

UW Medical Center-Montlake - Pulmonology has an outstanding opportunity for a Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C). The General Pulmonary Clinic at UW Medical Center - Montlake provides consultation and evaluation for patients with pulmonary and respiratory-related diseases, such as asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asbestosis, lung cancer, sarcoidosis, pulmonary fibrosis, sleep disorders and other lung-related diseases. We also evaluate appropriate patients for lung volume reduction surgery, lung transplantation and pulmonary rehabilitation. Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or other recognized regional or national accreditation board OR equivalent
  • Must be Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or achieve this designation within 6-months of hire. Failure to achieve and/or maintain this designation will result in termination of employment
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR card
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take vital signs, and reconcile records
  • Perform injections
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms
  • Submit medication prior authorizations
  • Recognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to provider
  • Act as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providers
  • Assist provider with procedures and medical exams
  • Perform point of care testing and report abnormal laboratory values
  • Assist in transporting patients as required
