About The Position

UPMC Williamsport's Orthopedic Office has a Full-Time Medical Assistant opening! This role involves assisting physicians with various aspects of patient care, including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks, to ensure patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, the position serves as a lead person for the team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or a national certification from a national certifying organization (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) or graduated from a LPN or RN or EMT/Paramedics program (must have received and maintained their certification if EMT) required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Attends routine meetings with staff to communicate procedural changes to improve service quality and patient safety.
  • Participates in the implementation of department goals, processes, and procedures. Assists with the orientation of new staff members.
  • Relays instructions and education to patients per provider's instruction.
  • Documents patient information into the medical record and adheres to all confidentiality requirements and policies.
  • Works directly with the manager to identify opportunities for improvement in regards to clinical/non-clinical functions and infection control procedures.
  • Serves as an office super user of EPIC Care as assigned.
  • Must attend competency training and be responsible for and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks from training. Includes but not limited to taking vital signs, medication and vaccine administration and passing medication test, CLIA testing collection of labs, TB skin testing, wound care and dressing change and other specific clinical functions (EKG, phlebotomy, ear irrigation) with training and perform clinical procedures according to policy and procedure.
  • Sends and receives patient medical records in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
  • Obtains lab/xray reports, hospital notes, referral information. Completes forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedules appointments.
  • Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepares patient rooms, sets up instruments and equipment according to department protocol, rooms patients and prepares for examination.
