Performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory care setting. This role supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members, and works collaboratively with administrative and operations staff. The Medical Assistant gathers patient data through interviews and observation, assists patients and families with preparation for examination, and assists the physician or APP during examination and procedures. They document treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies. Additionally, the Medical Assistant acts as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule specialty testing and/or specialty physician consultations, processes incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally, and enters medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under the direction of a provider. Adherence to Orlando Health and department specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards is required, as is consistent demonstration of personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards. The role requires reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other relevant standards, and compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
