This position performs clerical and transcribing (scribe) duties for the MD that are necessary to assure the efficient operation and record keeping of the department. The role involves processing and preparing patients for clinic visits and procedures in a timely manner, obtaining patient vitals, and prepping patients for physician examinations and patient visits. The Medical Assistant will assist the Medical Oncologist with patient examinations and procedures, such as transcribing orders, bone marrows, and skin biopsies, and will instruct patients regarding procedures. This role also involves completing insurance and disability forms, calling pharmacies with approved prescriptions, and accurately administering injections, immunizations, and/or medications under the direction of the medical provider. The Medical Assistant will receive, triage, direct, and return patient phone calls, manage lab results, order and restock examination rooms, remove hemoccult cards, and schedule patient appointments. Accurate documentation of all information pertaining to MA/CMA duties in the patient chart/computer system and scanning patient information are also key responsibilities. The role requires obtaining pertinent information, lab results, and diagnosis codes for physician review, and maintaining competency in all position responsibilities. Marginal functions include performing other duties as assigned.
