This position performs clerical and transcribing (scribe) duties for the MD that are necessary to assure the efficient operation and record keeping of the department. The role involves processing and preparing the patient for clinic visits and procedures by the physician in a timely manner. It also includes obtaining patient vitals and prepping patients for physician examinations and patient visits. The Medical Assistant will assist the Medical Oncologist with patient examinations and procedures as appropriate, such as transcribing orders, bone marrows, and skin biopsies, and instructing patients regarding procedures. Completing insurance and disability forms as needed and assisting MD’s and RN’s with forms is also part of the role. Additionally, the position involves calling pharmacies with approved new/refill prescriptions, accurately administering injections, immunizations and/or medications under the direction of the medical provider, and receiving, triaging, directing, and returning patient phone calls. The role also includes managing lab results, ordering and restocking examination rooms with medical supplies, removing hemoccult cards, scheduling appointments for patient procedures, examinations and outside referrals, and accurately documenting all information pertaining to MA/CMA duties in the patient chart/in the computer system. Scanning patient information and obtaining pertinent information, lab results, diagnosis codes and charts for physician review are also key responsibilities. Maintaining competency in all position responsibilities is required. Marginal functions include performing other duties as assigned.
