About The Position

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, a nationally recognized leader in comprehensive orthopedic services, is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to travel across its suburban locations (Naperville, Joliet, Oak Brook, and Westchester) as needed for coverage. This role is crucial for supporting clinic-based orthopedic providers with casting, splinting, patient flow, and procedural assistance in a fast-paced outpatient setting. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service and communication skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One or more years of orthopedic experience/healthcare experience required.
  • Experience in phlebotomy required.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying cast and splints is a plus or willing to learn.
  • Experience with wound care, including suture, stitch, and staple removal is a plus or willing to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and remove and/or assist with casts, splints, and dressings as ordered by the physician.
  • As directed by physician, removes staples, sutures and external fixation devices, as well as collects or assists with the collection of specimens, including venipuncture and C&S, and preparing specimens for processing.
  • Prepare and fit all types of orthopedic bracing devices and dme.
  • Instruct patients regarding care of casts, splints, dressings, dme etc.
  • Wound care as directed by physician.
  • Adjusts crutches and canes to fit patient.
  • Assist front desk with rooming patients in the event it is a slow cast room day.
  • Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  • Instructs patients in care of and assists patients in walking with casts, braces, and crutches.
  • Ordering supplies and maintaining supply inventory.
  • Creating PO for purchasing.
  • Ensure rooms are cleaned between patients, as well as cleaned and stocked at the end of the day.
  • Other duties as assigned
