About The Position

The Medical Assistant Certified Float is responsible for direct and indirect care of patients under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The Medical Assistant Certified Float performs a variety of patient care duties that may include initial patient assessment including blood pressure, heart/breathing rate, height, weight and the like. Documents patient's medical history. May collect and prepare samples for testing, including phlebotomy to obtain blood sample. May performs various administrative tasks to support the physician's and clinic's needs. Takes appropriate action to address and resolve concerns within delegated authority. The individual in this role is assigned on a daily or extended basis to a particular practice requiring coverage for scheduled and non-scheduled absences, staff turnover, need for coverage during extended recruitment efforts and other similar. Position normally involves assignment to off-campus satellite sites and may vary day to day, normally with day-before notice of assignment. This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited (or in process of accreditation within 2 years) Medical Assistant Program or completion of a governed Medical Assistant program or completed equivalent military training.
  • One year of Clinical Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years.
  • Minimum of one year related medical assistant experience in a comparable hospital or physician practice setting.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in physician practice.
  • Able to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • Able to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
  • Certified Medical Assistant Certification.
  • BLS completed prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward.
  • Current valid driver's license and reliable vehicle/transportation.
