About The Position

Unitek College of Nursing is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to transition into a hybrid Career Services and Externship Coordinator role. This position focuses on helping Medical Assisting students move from the classroom to externship and into employment. The role involves coordinating externship placements, coaching students and graduates, and building relationships with local healthcare employers. The Medical Assisting experience of the candidate will be leveraged to prepare students, support employers, and create pathways from education to employment.

Requirements

• At least three years of hands-on Medical Assisting experience.
• Completion of a Medical Assisting program.
• Strong communication, organization, relationship-building, and follow-through skills.
• Confidence reaching out to healthcare employers and developing new partnerships.
• Ability to manage multiple students, deadlines, employer relationships, and detailed documentation.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business technology.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in externship coordination, student support, career services, healthcare recruiting, employer relations, community outreach, or business development.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, or training others.
• Familiarity with student information, CRM, or case-management systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate quality externship placements for Medical Assisting students.
• Prepare students for externship and clearly communicate expectations for attendance, performance, and professionalism.
• Monitor student progress, required hours, evaluations, and documentation.
• Conduct externship site visits and maintain relationships with site supervisors.
• Coach students and graduates in resume development, interviewing, job-search strategies, and professional communication.
• Connect qualified graduates with job opportunities and support them through the hiring process.
• Build relationships with clinics, medical practices, hospitals, and other healthcare employers.
• Develop new externship sites and hiring opportunities through proactive outreach and networking.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and accreditation-ready student and employer records.
