About The Position

This role involves fulfilling patient care responsibilities, including managing patient flow, assisting with examinations, collecting patient history, and performing screenings. It also includes clerical duties such as managing medical records, scheduling appointments, and verifying insurance. Additionally, the position requires maintaining a clean and organized environment, ensuring proper instrument and equipment setup, and managing supplies. The role also encompasses clinical medical assisting duties like taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, handling laboratory procedures according to OSHA and CLIA guidelines, performing venipunctures, specimen handling, EKG testing, and administering first aid. Adherence to the Medical Assistant scope of practice in New York State is required. The Medical Assistant will work collaboratively with physicians, APPs, licensed nurses, receptionists, and other staff, maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and organizational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam rooms, assisting with walking transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, collecting patient history, performing screenings, charting, relaying instructions, and answering calls.
  • Complete clerical responsibilities such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports and referral information, completing forms, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, and managing/updating charts.
  • Meet environmental responsibilities including setting up instruments and equipment, cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment, ordering, sorting, and storing supplies, and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Complete organizational responsibilities including respecting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and reporting patient or staff issues to a supervisor.
  • Fulfill clinical medical assisting responsibilities including checking vital signs, preparing for physical examinations, verifying prescriptions, biohazard waste disposal, performing laboratory procedures (OSHA, CLIA-waived testing, quality control), venipunctures, specimen handling, EKG testing, completing lab draws, and providing emergency first aid.
  • Adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory and practice based on NYS guidelines.
  • Work as part of a team with Physicians, APPs, Licensed Nurses, Receptionists, and all other staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Comply with HIPAA.
  • Comply with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
