About The Position

This is a year-long internship and medical assistant position at Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, ideal for "bridge year" students who have graduated or are about to graduate from undergraduate school and are pursuing a career in medicine. This program, now in its 22nd year, has a strong track record of preparing participants for successful careers as physicians or physician’s assistants. The position requires a full year commitment and offers comprehensive medical assistant training and hands-on experience in dermatology. A car or reliable transportation is necessary due to the need to travel between surrounding offices. This is a paid, full-time internship accepting multiple applicants, with the current cohort consisting of 40 participants. The primary benefit is the unparalleled clinical experience offered.

Requirements

• Highly motivated students wishing to pursue a career in medicine
• Must have graduated or will be graduating by June 2026
• Available for a twelve-month period
• Must have a car or reliable transportation
• Completed undergraduate degree by June 2026 or earlier
• Not currently applying for medical school to begin in the class of September 2026

Responsibilities

• Assist the physician with all patient care duties
• Triage patients
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) data entry
• Writing and understanding prescriptions and their uses
• Biopsy preparation and clean up
• Surgical assisting and clean up
• Meet hundreds of patients per week
• Develop skills for a career in the medical profession
• Learn the basics of dermatology
