Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma required.
  • Holds and maintains a Medical Assistant Certification or Registration.
  • Holds and maintains an active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending and reaching low or overhead.
  • Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient need.
  • High-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens; frequent exposure to chemical hazards; may encounter radiation hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a liaison between patients, nurses, Surgeons, and facility staff.
  • Assisting in all areas including sterilization, operating room circulating, and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (Rotating).
  • Applying sanitary, infection control, and safety standards in preparing and sanitizing surgical instruments.
  • Accurately and safely handling instruments in accordance with our sterilization process.
  • Ensuring equipment is properly always working. Should equipment malfunction, immediately escalate to Clinical Administrator for assistance if unable to resolve.
  • Correctly peel-packing supplies/instruments, wrapping instruments for sterilization, inspecting each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness.
  • Documenting and maintaining accurate sterilization records.
  • Performing simple maintenance on equipment (i.e., clean filters and drains).
  • Preparing trays for designated areas according to policies and procedures.
  • Documenting and maintaining an inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Preparing the surgery suites by gathering, organizing, and preparing surgical supplies and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Monitoring inventory of all surgical supplies and equipment and notifying appropriate individuals when supplies are needed.
  • Operating medical equipment and performing technical skills according to set policies and standards of care.
  • Seeking timely assistance as appropriate.
  • Restocking surgery suites with appropriate supplies when procedures have ended for the day.
  • Collaborating with members of the surgical and clinical team in developing coordinated outcomes and interventions regarding patient progress and care.
  • Ensuring the operating rooms are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner at all times.
  • Following established HIPPA policies and procedures.
  • Bringing patients into the examination room in preparation for their follow-up visit.
  • Taking and recording patient vital signs and obtaining urine samples.
  • Cleaning examination room and executing room turnover.
  • Working hand in hand with Surgeons, Massage Therapists, and Nurses to ensure workflow is efficient.
  • Communicating with patients in a manner that instills understanding and confidence about their post-procedure healing instructions.
  • Recording appropriate patient information on patient charts and/or Salesforce.
  • Reporting any problems or unusual circumstances to the Clinical Administrator and Surgeon.
  • Understanding and following procedures for post-surgical and procedural processes.
  • Providing excellent customer service, ensuring that client's unique needs are met.
  • Displaying consistent professionalism and being empathetic and energetic with patients.
  • Providing basic direct care to patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse.
  • Monitoring vital signs and reporting patient’s behavior and well-being to the PACU Registered Nurses.
  • Preparing each patient recovery room with necessary items like blankets, pillows, medical equipment etc.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
