About The Position

Clinica Sierra Vista is seeking a Medical Assistant BH to join their team. This role serves as the primary point of contact for patients seeking psychiatric medication services and is responsible for the efficient management of the patient medication process. The Medical Assistant will schedule appointments according to established protocols, direct patients to appropriate providers, and ensure that provider schedules are optimized. They will also confirm that necessary paperwork and treatment plans are completed before client visits and communicate directly with psychiatrists or nurse practitioners regarding medication management needs. Clinica Sierra Vista is a large Federally Qualified Health Center serving diverse populations and is committed to patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Current State of California Medical Assistant Certification is required for MA II.
  • Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) card, American Heart Association accredited required.
  • Willingness to work well with other health care providers.
  • Commitment to the concept of preventative medicine and team approach to health care delivery.
  • Willingness to participate aggressively in the expanded role of the medical assistant.
  • Ability to learn about patients and their problems.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a medical setting or one year experience in a behavioral health setting, or other equaling experience.
  • Knowledge of community resources and collaborative agencies; skilled in verbal and written communication with individuals and their families challenged by behavioral health issues.
  • Able to deliver excellent customer service to diverse and difficult populations with respect and sensitivity.
  • Must adhere to Clinica Sierra Vista’s employee health/immunization requirements or provide a valid exemption request for subsequent approval.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and confirms patient appointments and communicates with medical providers, behavioral health providers, and clients.
  • Serves as the mediator in ‘warm handoffs’, where a transfer of care between two members of the BH team occurs in front of the patient.
  • Welcomes individuals served by telephone or in person with their requests for psychiatric medication service and in their on-going care at the clinic.
  • Performs routine patient care functions as prescribed by licensed healthcare providers following established clinical protocols, policies, and procedures within their scope of education, training, and responsibilities.
  • Makes appointments for clients according to written protocols and the needs of clients (i.e., ensuring high risk clients are addressed in an urgent manner).
  • Facilitates the practice of his or her assigned provider (s) in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Provide basic information and assistance to patients under the direction of the licensed personnel.
  • Document pertinent patient information, nursing procedures and patient response, following established guidelines and maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Able to perform other duties as assigned and directed.
