About The Position

West Cecil Health Center (WCHC) is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant for our Behavioral Health department, to join our team. Based primarily in Conowingo, travel to Elkton or Havre de Grace may be required. Bilingual is a plus. WCHC is a thriving nonprofit, community health organization that provides comprehensive and collaborative patient centered healthcare services.

  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care, behavioral health, or ambulatory care setting is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic clinical procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, colleagues, and healthcare providers.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and medical software; familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Products is advantageous.
  • A positive attitude and dedication to providing excellent patient care.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit at a desk/workstation for prolonged periods (typically 8-12 hours per shift).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 20 pounds: (examples: medical equipment, supplies, patient files).
  • Capacity to reach (choose overhead and/or at or below shoulder level).
  • Keyboarding: Entering text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard.
  • Gross Manipulation: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand(s). It is often present when lifting involves the hands. Note: Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand to hold or operate a tool such as tin snips or scissors.
  • Fine Manipulation: Touching, picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers to execute tasks such as answering phones, typing, transporting, and filing charts.
  • Foot or Leg Controls: Use of one or both feet or legs to move controls on machinery or equipment. Controls include, but are not limited to, pedals, buttons, levers, and cranks.
  • Driving: Ability to drive an automobile.
  • Stooping, Crouching, Kneeling.
  • Speaking: Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing Requirements: The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes or alarms). Including in-person speech, over the telephone, and/or using equipment.
  • Visual Acuity: sufficient to clearly see and distinguish small objects, including while using a computer, as well as to recognize individuals and features at a distance.

Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet and prepare patients for appointments, ensuring a comfortable environment.
  • Educate and support patients regarding their care and treatment options.
  • Accurately obtain and document patient medical history, vital signs, and chief complaints.
  • Manage patient records, schedule appointments, and maintain the confidentiality and security of medical information.
  • Handle patient inquiries, answer phone calls, and ensure accurate documentation for administrative tasks.
  • Responds to telephone inquiries in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Coordinate referrals, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic procedures to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Assist healthcare professionals during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Under supervision, perform basic medical procedures, including administering injections, collecting specimens, and conducting routine tests.
  • Processes refill requests following the standing order protocol.
  • Assist with patient transport and moving medical equipment as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms and equipment to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Manage medical supply inventory and perform preventative maintenance on medical equipment.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, safety regulations, HIPAA, HITECH, and quality assurance standards.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure efficient clinic operations, high-quality patient care, and a positive patient experience.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay updated with industry trends, new procedures, and advancements in medical technology.
  • Provide communication and translation assistance to patients within the scope of the role.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
