About The Position

As our Medical Assistant Apprentice, you will provide essential clerical/office and progressive competency-based clinical support within a physician clinic, preparing you for a successful career as a Medical Assistant. Every day you will handle reception, telephone duties, and medical information retrieval. You will also progress in clinical support, performing patient greeting, rooming, vital signs, EKG, and EMR documentation. Throughout, you will facilitate communication and collaborate with the healthcare team and patients/families to identify and meet their comprehensive needs. To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, our organizational mission, and core values. Your eagerness to learn, attention to detail, and collaborative spirit will be crucial for mastering clinical and administrative skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association is required within 90 days of employment

  • Enrolled in PG based Medical Assistant training/apprenticeship program

Responsibilities

  • Progresses as a competency-based medical assistant apprentice under the direct supervision of a facility-based clinical mentor and professional development and education team.
  • Assists with front office duties, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and greeting patients and family, while ensuring accurate documentation of new/return visits to centers/clinics.
  • Verfies accuracy and updates all demographic data in the electronic health record, identifies communication and financial barriers, and contributes to the patient plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team if barriers are identified.
  • Promotes, advocates, and collaborates to protect each patient's health, safety, and rights.
  • Completes Competency-based skills Phase I, including Patient Rooming, Vital Signs, and EMR documentation of skills performed, under the direct supervision of a facility-based clinical mentor and professional development and education team.
  • Accurately gathers and processes all necessary information and data, completing all medical record, referral, billing, and medical treatment requirements.
