About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill two, full-time, 9-month Medical Assistant positions for the Student Health Service at Oregon State University (OSU). Join the team at Oregon State University Student Health Services (SHS), where your work directly supports the health, well-being, and academic success of OSU students. As a Medical Assistant, you will be an integral member of a collaborative healthcare team that provides compassionate, high-quality care in a nationally accredited ambulatory care setting. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Requirements

  • Six months experience providing health care support in a health care facility; OR Completion of a vocational training program in a health care support area (e.g., Medical Office Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant).
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Commitment to promoting an inclusive work environment.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
  • Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred.
  • Applicants currently completing an accredited Medical Assistant program and eligible to obtain certification by start date are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in the medical field preferred.
  • Willingness to learn about varying cultural medical practices and work effectively with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to learn computer applications appropriate to job functions.
  • Experience with patient prioritization in a medical setting.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, student-centered clinical support by preparing patients for visits, collecting health information, obtaining and documenting vital signs, and supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
  • Assist healthcare providers in delivering comprehensive care through medication and vaccine administration, diagnostic testing, telehealth support, procedural assistance, and patient monitoring.
  • Coordinate patient care and communication by serving as a liaison between students, providers, and healthcare team members to support continuity of care and timely follow-up.
  • Perform administrative and care coordination functions including managing patient communications, responding to telephone and electronic inquiries, processing clinical information, and supporting daily provider schedules.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records and clinical documentation while ensuring compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and organizational standards for confidentiality and record management.
  • Support efficient clinic operations by maintaining exam room readiness, managing supplies, processing specimens and documentation, and contributing to a safe, organized clinical environment.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team while participating in professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and activities that support student health and wellness.
