About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office is seeking to hire a Mediator to work in the Attorney General’s Insurance & Financial Services Division. The Division provides consumer assistance and enforces laws regarding insurance, investment, and lending issues, and has a focus on automobile lending and insurance, as well as a focus on post-secondary educational debt, including student loan servicing and debt collection. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Data analysis skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to actively listen and explain complex information clearly and patiently to consumers, insurers, and financial services entities.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience writing letters, memos, emails, summaries, and translating complex information in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Ability to listen well, read carefully, and assess complex situations.
  • Effective research, organization, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or familiarity with securities, investments, and consumer lending preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mediate consumer complaints, with a particular focus on investments, annuities, and lending disputes, which may involve extended advocacy.
  • Analyze and research various topics to provide information, referrals, and guidance to consumers.
  • Collaborate with other government agencies and community partners.
  • Assist in investigations, litigation, and policy work relating to financial services issues.
