About The Position

Drew University is seeking a Media Systems Specialist in the Instructional Technology Department. The Media Systems Specialist is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and technical standards of classroom, event, and student life audio visual systems and makerspace infrastructure. This position leads technology projects, capital renovations, and system upgrades while also serving as a frontline responder for classroom and event technology support. This is a full-time, non-exempt, 35 hour per week in-person position. The role operates as an equal partner with the Coordinator of Media Services to ensure continuous service coverage, shared documentation, and coordinated support for all instructional and event environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 1–2 years of professional experience in audio visual support, media services, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with classroom technology, audio visual presentation equipment.
  • Strong dedication to customer service with proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to effectively train, supervise and support student workers in a technical services environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated familiarity with 3D printing and video production.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, and support audio, video, and control systems in instructional spaces and event venues.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all installed classroom and event audio visual systems to ensure all projection, audio, and control systems are fully operational.
  • Lead technical planning and implementation for new classrooms, renovations, capital projects, specially funded initiatives, and ongoing system upgrades, in collaboration with the Director of Instructional Technology.
  • Establish, document, and maintain technical standards for classroom, event, and makerspace systems and installations.
  • Maintain and manage the campus audio visual equipment inventory database, including asset tracking and availability for future projects and redeployment.
  • Serve as a primary responder on the classroom and event technology hotline and resolve critical instructional and event technology issues during assigned shifts.
  • Research and recommend new classroom, event, and makerspace technologies in collaboration with the Director of Instructional Technology and the Coordinator of Media Services.
  • Assist with day-to-day classroom and event support operations beyond assigned hotline shifts, including on-site troubleshooting and overflow coverage.
  • Participate in training and onboarding of student employees by providing technical instruction related to equipment handling, classroom checks, and system use.
  • Provide guidance to student employees performing classroom technology checks, including correct procedures and documentation within the ticketing system.
  • Participate in planning and coordination meetings related to instructional spaces, event support, and technology upgrades.
  • Provide cross-coverage for the Coordinator of Media Services during absences or peak service periods to ensure continuity of classroom and event technology support.
  • Train faculty, staff, and students on the use of classroom, event, and media equipment and demonstrate functionality as needed.
