About The Position

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a creative and driven Media Specialist (Temporary) to join our Communications Team! This role offers invaluable experience in strategic communications and digital media within a unique law enforcement environment. This position requires approximately 30 hours per week. The assigned workload and hours may be adjusted as needed to meet agency requirements. THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION AND THERE ARE NO BENEFITS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TEMPORARY POSITION.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be proficient in photography, videography, photo/video editing, and/or multimedia journalism, along with video/audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, iMovie), social media management tools, and a basic understanding of journalistic principles.
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft 365.
• Honorably discharged from the military (if applicable).
• Have no pending cases or criminal felony convictions (misdemeanors may require expungement).
• No THC or Marijuana use within 365 days; some drugs are automatic disqualifiers.
• No student loans in default status.
• Must possess a valid SC Driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to hire and meet the requirements of the County’s motor vehicle policy.

Responsibilities

• Capture compelling video, audio, and photography at ceremonies, training exercises, news conferences, and more.
• Collaborate with our team to create dynamic content for Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram – bringing stories to life online!
• Conduct interviews with officers and community members, uncovering the human side of law enforcement.
• Assist in managing Freedom of Information Act requests, contributing to open communication within our agency.
• Assist disaster response teams in the event of a natural disaster as necessary.
