About The Position

San Diego State University is looking for a creative and technically skilled Media Production Specialist II to join the Academic Media team within the Information Technology Division. In this role, you’ll produce high-quality instructional and promotional media that supports teaching, learning, research, and campus engagement. From video production and post-production to immersive technologies and multimedia development, you’ll help create innovative digital experiences that advance the university’s academic mission.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of digital video production workflows, media formats, file compression, and content delivery methods.
  • Proficiency with two or more professional media production tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, captioning requirements, copyright laws, and best practices related to digital and instructional media.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex multimedia and video production projects from concept through delivery.
  • Ability to analyze needs, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions in a media production environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and end users.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and coordinate staff and student assistants to ensure high-quality production outcomes.
  • Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in digital video production, lighting, audio recording, or multimedia services within a college, university, media organization, government agency, or other complex organization.
  • Experience operating professional video production equipment, including high-definition cameras, non-linear editing systems, and media production software.
  • Experience designing, supporting, and maintaining video production, audio/visual, or studio environments, including lighting and audio systems.
  • Experience with video content management, streaming, lecture capture, or media delivery platforms such as Kaltura, Mediasite, Sharestream, TechSmith Relay, or YouTube.
  • Experience working in higher education media services, audio/visual support, or technical production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned video projects through the full production lifecycle, including planning, filming, editing, and delivery.
  • Serve as producer, camera operator, and editor while coordinating audio, lighting, graphics, and visual elements.
  • Create graphic compositions, animations, logos, and visual enhancements for instructional and promotional content.
  • Support special events and multimedia projects across the university.
  • Edit and finalize video content using professional production tools and workflows.
  • Perform color correction, audio enhancement, motion graphics integration, encoding, and media distribution.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure media products meet project goals and expectations.
  • Deliver content in multiple formats optimized for digital and instructional use.
  • Research and develop media projects utilizing immersive technologies, including 3D modeling, 360° content, and Extended Reality (XR).
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create innovative multimedia experiences that enhance teaching and learning.
  • Support the development and redesign of online learning content using instructional design best practices and accessibility standards.
  • Contribute to research and development initiatives exploring new digital media technologies.
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and campus partners on media production strategies and project design.
  • Provide guidance on scripting, storyboarding, and content development.
  • Maintain production equipment, digital asset management systems, and media workflows.
  • Train and provide lead direction to student assistants supporting production and research projects.
