Media Design Engineer

CTIMarietta, GA
$80,000 - $130,000Onsite

About The Position

As a Media Design Engineer at CTI, you will turn client needs and system concepts into detailed, build-ready media and production system designs that actually work in their day-to-day world. You will be the technical partner who listens first, understanding workflows, priorities, and expectations, then clearly articulates what the system must do and how success will be measured. You will work with clients, sales, vendors, and project managers from early scope conversations through documentation, integration support, commissioning, and handoff, making sure everyone is on the same page about the design. Design, for you, is more than clean signal flow; it includes virtual routing, user interfaces, networking requirements, and thoughtful testing plans so the entire system behaves the way the client expects. You will stay close to your projects during testing and commissioning, partnering with field teams to validate performance, tune systems, and confirm that the final experience matches what was promised in the design. In every phase, you show up with excellence, use technology, hard work, and common sense.

Requirements

  • Deep experience (5+ years) designing media and production systems for studios, control rooms, stadiums, arenas, or enterprise media environments.
  • Working knowledge of HD, UHD, HDR, SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, SMPTE ST 2082, PTP, AES67, Dante, NDI, and related signal transport standards.
  • Solid networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, multicast, QoS, routing concepts, NMOS, SDN, and ACLs.
  • Experience with media subsystems such as video routing, multiviewers, production switchers, audio consoles, intercom, SAN/NAS storage, media asset management, and cloud-based media workflows.
  • Ability to read, create, and review technical drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, Revit, or similar design platforms.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail, especially during installation and commissioning.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with clients, senior engineers, technicians, vendors, Sales, and project managers.
  • A track record of turning high-level concepts into detailed, buildable designs that install cleanly and perform as promised.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
  • At least 5 years experience in broadcast engineering, including authoring design documentation for broadcast technical architectures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broadcast technology, equipment, facilities, and production systems used in the Media and Entertainment / Broadcast industry. Formats include high-definition, UHD, and HDR video systems deployed using analog, SDI, and SMPTE 2110 IP transport protocols.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP routing, ACL’s, QoS, VLAN’s, and Wireless Access Points.
  • Experience with various hardware and software architectures, including: High Performance Data Storage (SAN, NAS), Video and Media Data Management (Archive and Backup Strategies), Media Asset Management Platforms (MAM) - CatDV, IPV, Primestream, Dalet, Reach Engine, Edit Share, Iconik, networking, cloud platforms, and storage architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in broadcast engineering sales is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Listen to clients and stakeholders to understand their goals, workflows, and expectations, then translate those into clear system requirements and success criteria.
  • Develop conceptual media system designs that show how technology will support the way the client works and communicates.
  • Turn concepts into detailed, build-ready designs, including drawings, signal flows, virtual routing plans, equipment lists, rack layouts, and specifications.
  • Design beyond pure signal flow by defining user interfaces, control logic, networking requirements, and testing plans that ensure the system behaves as expected.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Managers, vendors, and field teams to keep everyone aligned on design intent, scope, and technical decisions.
  • Help identify technical risks, dependencies, and design concerns early so the project team can address them before they become jobsite surprises.
  • Support integration and commissioning by answering design questions, participating in review meetings, and helping field teams validate and fine-tune system performance.
  • Verify that installed systems match the approved design and client requirements, and document any changes made during build and commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate and current design documentation throughout the project lifecycle so CTI teams can service and support the system confidently.
