Malden Public Schools seeks a talented, energetic, and flexible educator to join us as Media Center Specialist. The educator will collaborate and support all educators and students in the school, as well as serve as a collaborative member of the district Technology and Media departments. The successful candidate will empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and producers of information. As a Media Center Specialist Teacher and Instructional Partner, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: Participate in the development and delivery of a rigorous curriculum that will provide students with a rich understanding of educational standards including those of the Massachusetts School Library Association (MSLA) and the Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) Collaborate with teachers to design and teach engaging learning experiences and assessments that incorporate the full range of literacy skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy), foster critical thinking, and promote a love of reading and lifelong learning Evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging instructional technology to improve learning outcomes Manages Media Center circulation borrowing system for staff and students utilizing Follet Destiny Library Manager for book and digital collections and Destiny Resource Manager for student Chromebooks and other devices (or current district technology for resource management, if different) Organizes technology and media events for the library Collaborate with departmental and district staff in order to develop and maintain a collection of print and digital resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the instructional strategies of the school community Provide resources and programs that promote independent reading and writing in a variety of genres and reading levels Work closely with District K-8 Librarian(s) to ensure the print collection is up to date, well and effectively organized and meets the needs and interests of the K-8 student body Ensure that students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas and information, including principles of copyright and fair use Provide students and staff with flexible access to and assistance in using information and educational technology resources Teach two classes a day integrating the Digital Literacy and Computer Science ( DLCS) and American Association of School Librarians (AASL) curriculum standards with a daily preparatory period built into the incumbent's schedule. Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and producers of information Teach research skills required to locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and use information from a variety of sources Educate students and staff to be safe and responsible digital citizens and users of Malden Public Schools online resources and tools.
