About The Position

Performs a variety of technical, computer, and clerical tasks to provide audiovisual and technical services to the library. Work involves operating and maintaining a specialized automated booking catalog and demonstrating the operation of audiovisual equipment. Employees perform clerical, technical, and administrative tasks to establish and maintain inventory, track loaned equipment and materials, and provide lists of resources that support curriculum and instruction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma supplemented by clerical and technical training with 1 to 2 years of experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 10 pounds).
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
  • Ability to receive assignments and/or direction from supervisors.
  • Ability to read a variety of policies and procedures, computer manuals, reference materials, etc.
  • Ability to enter data into the computer and prepare records, correspondence, reports, etc., with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
  • Ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence.

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Florence 1 Schools as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Media Assistant.
  • Thorough knowledge of the organization of related departments and agencies.
  • Knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains specialized audiovisual computer booking and catalog programs.
  • Loans audiovisual equipment and materials to teachers.
  • Maintains files of requests and distribution of audiovisual equipment and materials.
  • Demonstrates setup and operation of audiovisual equipment and materials.
  • Inspects loaned audiovisual equipment and materials for maintenance and repair.
  • Distributes teachers’ guides, catalogs, and instructional support material.
  • Provides clerical and technical support for the library.
  • Assists with telephone and email inquiries.
  • Performs related work to assist with Library Media Services as needed.
  • Performs general library duties, including processing new materials, cataloging, checking materials in and out, shelving materials, weeding materials, mending books, receiving and receipting fines for overdue materials, etc., as needed.
  • Performs general office and administrative duties as necessary, including answering the telephone, typing documents, copying and filing documents, attending meetings, etc.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Monitors the activities/behavior of the student body to ensure student safety and well-being.
