About The Position

The job of "Media Assistant" is done for the purpose(s) of supporting overall computer operations of the school and maintaining library collections at the school site; implementing age appropriate programs and complementing and enhancing classroom instruction using library and technology resources.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • May require supplementary coursework and additional training in the use of computers, software, including Google certification levels 1 & 2.
  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, materials and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of computer and computer systems including both hardware and software. Stays current with hardware and software applications designed for student needs and teacher support.
  • Skills to operate various computer software applications, test and troubleshoot hardware/software problems, English language skills in both written and verbal form.
  • Verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills necessary to assist in the instruction of software applications and use of computer technology. Communicates regularly with staff.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment, library control systems (including, but not limited to digital records), and organizations tools.
  • Must pass fingerprint background check and parapro assessment.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and solves malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications at the site level.
  • Makes sure application software and hardware are in line with the District Technology Plan.
  • Assists staff for the purpose of implementing lesson plans.
  • Assists students for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of library and technology resources.
  • Conducts activities in a variety of formats for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature.
  • Installs computer hardware and software applications in conjunction with the technology department, for the purpose of providing instructional materials.
  • Tracks equipment, software licenses, and materials for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining availability of materials.
  • Distributes various books, media, and technology for the purpose of providing requested classroom reference materials.
  • Maintains computer hardware and software applications for the purpose of ensuring availability of instructional materials.
  • Manages record systems and accounts.
  • Promotes digital citizenship for the purpose of learning in a digital world.
  • Promotes library use related to holidays, seasonal activities, etc. for the purpose of motivating students to use the library resources. Creates displays and promotions.
  • Reports and tracks technology issues.
  • Records and reports circulation information.
  • Sets up hardware when new equipment arrives or when moved from one location to another.
  • Supports classroom instruction with various software applications, materials, and media, and the use of computer technology in support of the vision of the district.
  • Trains others in the building on tips and tricks to solve problems and/or benefit student learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, supervisor and others in order to promote digital literacy.
  • Participates is District meetings for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Supervises students for the purpose of ensuring appropriate class credit and/or learning experience.
  • May attend building/program meetings and events i.e. department meetings, staff meetings, open house, and/or related in-service activities/workshops
  • May serve on building committees.
  • Provides instructional support and tutoring to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.
  • Takes action, or assist in taking action, to restrain students who are at risk of harming themselves or others by following school/district approved restraint procedures.
  • Required to follow Board policies and stay abreast of updates and changes.
  • Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, curriculum implementation, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of student in the classroom.
