About The Position

The Med-Tech is responsible for coordinating medication services with residents, pharmacies, and physicians. This role involves tracking medication changes and refills, reporting resident status changes to supervisors, and maintaining accurate resident records. The Med-Tech also assists with inventory, scheduling, and ensuring medication policies are followed. They are a key point of contact for physicians, families, and vendors in the absence of the Health Services Director or Journey Program Director. Additionally, the Med-Tech assists residents with daily medications, treatments, and care, ensuring medications are administered correctly and documenting any discrepancies. Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of medication areas is also a key responsibility. The role may involve assisting other staff and performing caregiver duties when necessary, and requires participation in narcotic counts. Familiarity with medical abbreviations and terms is essential.

Requirements

  • Must have experience in and demonstrate proficiency with the ability to perform job duties in a safe manner.
  • Must be proficient with communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must have the ability to read and write, and understand English.
  • Must be able to relate well with residents and families.

  • Previous experience in an assisted living environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate medication services with resident, pharmacy, and physician.
  • Inform local pharmacy of new resident medication needs and verify medications and dosages with physician.
  • Order additional medications as needed and directed.
  • Track all orders for medication changes and/or refills.
  • Report changes in medication orders, residents requiring extra services, and changes in resident physical or mental status to supervisors.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and inclusive records on all residents, including Medication Administration Records (MAR), monthly audits, and processing new resident paperwork.
  • Maintain an inventory of department supplies and place supply orders with supervisor approval.
  • Act as a point of contact for physicians, family members, and vendors in the absence of supervisors.
  • Assist with department scheduling, including covering call-offs and vacations.
  • Update the Caregiver Monthly Assignment Journal, Medication Technician Med List, and 24 Hour Communication Log.
  • Assist residents with their daily medications, treatments, and care within the scope of practice and regulations.
  • Observe and verify medication ingestion or application, documenting any refusals and notifying supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential resident medication and care records.
  • Keep medicine carts and areas orderly, clean, appropriately stocked, and locked.
  • Assist medication aides and caregivers and assume caregiver activities when needed.
  • Participate in and complete narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift, reporting discrepancies immediately.
  • Prepare medication for distribution to residents per policy.
  • Carry a radio and/or pager for prompt response to resident issues.
  • Be familiar with common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms.
