About The Position

Wander Staffing is seeking eight (8) experienced Med Surg Registered Nurses to provide inpatient nursing services at Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) in Shiprock, New Mexico. RNs will provide assessment, medication administration, acute and chronic disease management, clinical procedures, patient monitoring, emergency support, and clinical documentation for Indian Health Service patients. This is a 100% on-site position in the Medical Surgical Unit, with flexibility to float to other nursing departments as needed. The role involves a 2.5-year contract with the Indian Health Service (IHS), Navajo Area.

Requirements

  • Current, valid, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state
  • Minimum 36 months of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in Med Surg
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to perform and validate required Medical Surgical competencies, including telemetry, IV therapy, medication administration, blood administration, central/PICC line care, CIWA, neurological assessments, and emergency equipment use
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use required IHS electronic health record and information systems
  • Ability to read, understand, speak, and write English effectively and demonstrate respect for local American Indian and Alaska Native culture
  • Must satisfy fitness-for-duty, immunization, pre-employment screening, background investigation, and security requirements

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient Medical Surgical nursing care for acute and chronic disease processes, surgical patients, palliative care patients, and patients requiring isolation precautions.
  • Assess and care for patients with conditions including diabetes, alcohol withdrawal, cellulitis, sepsis, pneumonia, tuberculosis rule-out, wounds, cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, and altered mental status.
  • Administer medications and perform clinical procedures including barcode medication administration, heparin drips, blood administration, blood draws/cultures, peripheral IV insertion, and PICC/central line care.
  • Perform basic telemetry, CIWA assessments, neurological assessments, Foley catheter insertion/removal, nasogastric tube placement/care, tube feeding, oxygen administration, and other Med-Surg procedures within scope and competency.
  • Operate clinical equipment and systems including Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, defibrillator, vital-sign equipment, Hoyer lift, and electronic health record/charting systems.
  • Provide bedside reporting, patient handoff, transport support, and timely clinical documentation while following HIPAA, Privacy Act, infection-control, patient-safety, and IHS requirements.
  • Float or rotate to other nursing departments as needed to support patient care requirements.
  • Complete weekly timesheets accurately and verified by the Supervisory Clinical Nurse.
  • Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, flexibility, and compliance with all IHS policies and procedures.
