About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistants are tasked with assisting in the direct daily care of patients. Certified Nursing Assistants help patients with Activities of Daily Living and are also responsible for monitoring and reporting changes in condition to their supervisor.

Requirements

  • Current CNA certification in the State of Georgia. (Must obtain within 4 months of hire).
  • Current BLS certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Previous CNA/clinical experience is preferred but not required.
  • Additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Takes patient’s initial vital signs including height, weight, allergies, and current pharmacy on patient arrival.
  • Measures and records temperatures, pulses, respirations, and blood pressures accurately.
  • Report any abnormal vitals to the nurse immediately.
  • Applying and discontinuing telemetry monitor per physician order.
  • Explains procedures to patients before administration.
  • Obtaining and documenting daily weights.
  • Empties urinary drainage bags and records amount in medical records. Reports any irregularities to the nurse.
  • Assesses patients for any abnormalities in skin and ensures the prevention of skin breakdowns, skin tears, and wounds.
  • Assists patients with bowel and bladder functions.
  • Provides range of motion exercises as instructed by the nurse.
  • Provides daily catheter and perineal care.
  • Changes patient’s positions every 2 hours during shifts.
  • Gives accurate reports of care provided and resident’s response to the nurses.
  • Reports all changes in patient condition to the nurse immediately.
  • Provides post-mortem care.
  • Assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting patients in and out of beds, chairs, wheelchairs, bathtubs, etc.
  • Assists patients with care including bathing, grooming, hygiene, feeding, and placement of adaptive equipment.
  • Delivers and documents all A.M., P.M., and bedtime snacks and supplements.
  • Distributes trays and feeds patients. Ensures patients are properly positioned for meals.
  • Keeps patient water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water, and within easy reach.
  • Keeps patients dry by changing gowns, clothing, linens, etc. Ensures that patients who are unable to make needs known are checked on frequently.
  • Ensures call lights are within reach of the patient and answers them promptly.
  • Demonstrates patience and tact while interacting with patients, their families, and personnel.
  • Maintains cleanliness of patient units, central bathing area, treatment and supply rooms, workrooms, linen closets, bedpans, urinals and commodes, basins, bathtubs, floors, etc. to maintain patient safety needs.
  • Demonstrates awareness of hazards and ensures areas are safe for patients.
  • Participates in and receives nursing reports upon reporting for duty.
  • Prepares patient rooms prior to arrival.
  • Keeps correct intake/output when indicated.
  • Changes bed linens and handles them according to infection control guidelines. Strips beds at discharge and discards materials in the appropriate bins.
  • Establishes priorities and organizes work within shifts.
  • Assists with ward clerk duties. Answers phones, makes charts, assigns telemetry, etc.
  • Cleans instruments and equipment and returns them to the proper place.
  • Assists in orienting new personnel.
  • Performs clerical duties.
  • Removes trash and linens from patient care areas and disposes of it properly at the end of each shift.
  • Takes call rotations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested.
