This position is responsible for performing all routine laboratory testing. The role involves rotating through different bench areas of the laboratory, including evenings and weekends as required. Key functions include specimen computer entry and processing, maintaining a clean work area, orienting new staff, and training MLT students. The technician will provide accurate and reproducible results for various tests, utilize critical thinking to interpret data, and report results within established timeframes. Independent problem-solving for patient samples, equipment, and procedures is expected. The role also includes recognizing and reporting critical results, performing quality control, participating in proficiency testing and continuing education, and operating the LIS and other computer programs. Venipunctures and capillary sticks may be required, as well as assisting with new procedures and reagent preparation. Providing excellent customer service to patients, families, providers, and staff is essential.
