Mechanical Test Engineer

Mach Industries•Huntington Beach, CA
•$105,000 - $140,000

About The Position

Mach Industries is seeking a Test Engineer to build, instrument, and test mechanical and electromechanical systems. This hands-on role works closely with mechanical, avionics, mechanisms, and flight sciences teams to develop test solutions, execute experiments, analyze results, and iterate designs. The engineer supports development throughout a product’s lifecycle, from component, coupon, or subscale testing through systems- and vehicle-level qualification, and helps expand test capabilities through fixtures, instrumentation, automation, and lab infrastructure. The role contributes to prototyping and refining mechanical systems and optimizing designs for performance, survivability, and scalability, from concept through deployment. It involves planning tests, developing test hardware and infrastructure, coordinating test readiness, conducting experiments, processing data, and supporting design iteration. Occasional extended hours and weekend work may be needed to support critical development and test milestones. Applicants must meet U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain required authorizations. Offers may be conditioned on authorization to receive export-controlled software or technology without sponsorship for an export license.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience testing systems in aerospace, automotive, electronics, or a similar field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to systematically troubleshoot hardware and test setups, identify root causes, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must satisfy the stated U.S. government export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain required authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics.
  • Strong 3D modeling skills with CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with aerospace test standards or guidelines such as MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, or ASTM standards.
  • At least 3 years of experience testing systems in aerospace, automotive, electronics, or a similar field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct hands-on testing, including vehicle-level qualification and design validation as well as subscale and coupon-based testing.
  • Own the mechanical design and development of test hardware and infrastructure, integrating mechanical systems with sensors, actuators, and embedded control hardware.
  • Work with mechanical, avionics, and mechanisms teams to gather requirements, author test plans, lead test readiness reviews, execute tests, and post-process data.
  • Support prototyping, building, and testing with mechanical teams to enable design iteration.
  • Expand testing capabilities through hardware procurement and lab automation, and establish test standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Develop test or scripting automation for data acquisition, test execution, data processing, or reporting using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent.
  • Support critical development and test milestones, including occasional extended hours and weekends as needed.

Benefits

  • Performance-based incentives tied to individual and company performance.
  • Stock options or equity participation.
  • Healthcare, dental, and vision plans.
  • Retirement savings plans.
  • Paid time off.
  • Funding for continuing education, training, and career growth.
  • Health insurance.
  • Opportunities for professional development.
