About The Position

In the role of Plant Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant production and process equipment in Golden, Colorado. This role performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance in compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, FDA, and GMP standards. The mechanic applies strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose equipment issues, perform repairs, and support breakdown elimination and equipment reliability initiatives across the facility. This position works in a manufacturing environment with varying degrees of noise, dust, humidity, and exposure to hot and cold temperatures. The role requires frequent stooping, kneeling, and crawling in confined or cramped areas while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a hard hat or bump cap, safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection. Routine lifting of up to 50 pounds is expected. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic must be able to work any shift or schedule as required, while collaborating with operations, engineering, planners, and contractors to maintain safe operations, complete planned work, support training efforts, and ensure consistent equipment performance.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Four years of industrial maintenance and /or four years practical experience in an accredited industrial apprenticeship program

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all company policies and OSHA, EPA, FDA, GMP, and plant safety standards, including LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.
  • Diagnose mechanical and system issues, lead root cause analysis (RCFA, 5 Whys, Pareto, Fishbone), and implement practical, long-term solutions to improve equipment reliability.
  • Support breakdown elimination and reliability initiatives by analyzing failed components and contributing to daily management systems.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance using hand and power tools; service power transmission systems, pumps, valves, steam systems, lubrication systems, and processing equipment.
  • Apply welding and machining skills (lathe, mill, press, bandsaw) as needed to fabricate or repair components.
  • Identify equipment deficiencies, drive corrective modifications, and collaborate with engineering, vendors, and internal stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Maintain accurate equipment documentation, drawings, manuals, and communicate changes to affected teams.
  • Support production operations through coaching, mentoring, SOP development, and execution of planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Develop and deliver equipment-specific training for maintenance personnel and operations team members.
  • Lead and support equipment overhauls, ensuring completion, follow-up on deferred work, and adherence to startup schedules.
  • Document all maintenance activities in SAP CMMS; use data, equipment history, PM plans, and BOMs to drive reliability and preventive maintenance improvements.
  • Provide technical expertise for plant projects, capital work, and cross-site equipment issues while building strong relationships with SMEs and vendors.
