About The Position

Sora Fuel aims to decarbonize aviation by converting air into affordable, carbon-neutral jet fuel at scale with no feedstock constraints or adverse impacts on agriculture. Our novel electrolysis technology directly converts captured carbon via direct air capture (DAC) into syngas without needing to regenerate CO2, thereby reducing the energy required by up to 90%. This provides an economical pathway to carbon-neutral flight, potentially addressing >2% of global emissions.
The company was founded in early 2024 with funding from renowned toughtech investor Engine Ventures. We exceeded our initial technical goals and are actively recruiting for a range of roles to scale the technology for a Demonstration Plant. Role
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Mechanical Technician with experience in machine shops as well as constructing test rigs involving 80/20 framing with knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical wiring. Maintaining equipment such as mills and waterjet cutters. Initial tasks will include supporting and setting up the R&D area and Machine Shop in a new facility.

Requirements

• 5+ years Machine shop experience (mills, lathes, drills, saws, waterjet)
• Constructing test stands including jigs and fixtures for cell assembly
• Plumbing proficiency for low pressure liquid and gas systems
• Low voltage wiring and electrical skills

Nice To Haves

• Electrochemical testing or assembly experience
• Knowledge of 3D printing
• Welding skills
• CAD experience including SolidWorks and DXF files

Responsibilities

• Manage a small internal machine shop including maintenance and safety
• Operating and maintaining an internal waterjet cutter
• Maintaining 3D printers for prototyping plastic parts
• Constructing frames and support structures for Test Rigs
• Plumbing lab equipment including pumps, valves and plastic tubing
• Support wiring of electrical panels and power supplies
• Maintaining an inventory of components for electrolyzer testing
