About The Position

As a Mechanical Technician Trainee, you'll receive paid hands-on training while assisting with the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment throughout our facility. Working alongside experienced mentors, you'll develop valuable technical skills, learn industry best practices, and gain exposure to industrial systems including conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and rotating equipment. This position is designed to help you build a strong foundation for a long-term career in production, maintenance and reliability at ArcelorMittal TX HBI, with opportunities to grow within a world-class manufacturing operation. Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or currently pursuing a technical or vocational education program.
  • Strong interest in mechanical systems, maintenance, manufacturing, or skilled trades.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical aptitude through school projects, hobbies, technical classes, automotive work, shop experience, or personal projects is a plus but not required.
  • Previous work experience is not required; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety, environmental, and maintenance procedures.
  • Assist experienced technicians with inspections, maintenance, and equipment repairs.
  • Learn how to maintain pumps, conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and other production equipment.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance activities throughout the facility.
  • Help identify equipment issues and assist in troubleshooting efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and training activities.
  • Support maintenance projects during planned shutdowns and equipment upgrades.
  • Supports turnaround, outage, and shutdown activities, including planning, execution, and equipment restoration.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Work closely with maintenance, operations, and reliability teams to learn plant processes and equipment.
  • Participate in training programs, mentoring opportunities, and skills development activities.
  • Perform other duties and learning assignments as directed.
