About The Position

The Mechanical Technician I position involves assembling, testing, and maintaining mechanical systems and components to meet required specifications. In this entry-level role, you will work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure the quality and reliability of flight hardware. This position requires a basic understanding of mechanical principles, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to precision and safety. You will be involved in assembling major structures, performing minor part-fitting operations for spacecraft systems, and translating blueprints into mechanical assemblies. Additionally, your tasks will include precision drilling, using calibrated tools, bonding, troubleshooting, and developing skills in precision cleaning and handling mechanical hardware. In this role, you will work with and learn from more experienced technicians in areas such as complex mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication. You will inspect, assemble, integrate, and operationally check flight hardware, as well as assemble, test, and maintain mechanical systems and components to meet specifications and standards. Using precision measurement tools, you will ensure components meet specified tolerances while adhering to general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements. Additionally, you will follow 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness protocols, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and work in restrictive spaces. Collaboration with team members to achieve production goals will also be a key part of your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Typically entry-level 0 - 2 years of experience
  • Familiarity with general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements
  • Ability to perform basic equipment setup and maintenance activities and display general mechanical aptitude and hand tools/precision tools competency
  • Ability to learn and perform precision cleaning
  • Ability to learn 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness
  • Ability to conduct basic verification/troubleshooting of own work
  • Basic understanding of mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication

  • Demonstrated progress towards formal training or education
  • Certifications: IPC & J-STD
  • A&P License
  • Communication skills (Both written and oral)
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or mechanical environment
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools
