About The Position

Afton Chemical Corporation, a part of the NewMarket Corporation, is a leading global supplier of lubricant and fuel additives. This role involves building, starting, and monitoring R&D mechanical tests in the Fired Engine Testing area. The technician will record data, make adjustments and repairs to ensure test parameters are met, and collaborate with test engineers to prioritize test queues.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Demonstrated mechanical experience or aptitude.
  • Ability to utilize data reduction software/techniques.
  • Implement basic mechanical design capabilities.
  • Understanding of electronics/instrumentation/calibration theory.

Responsibilities

  • Know, understand and consistently adhere to established safety policy and procedures.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes or additions to safety procedures and assist in safety training activities as required.
  • Work in parallel with team members and test engineers to build/monitor automotive and mechanical tests in the assigned area and record all pertinent data.
  • Ensure that all pertinent information is routinely communicated to the appropriate parties.
  • Carry out standard preventive maintenance as scheduled and complete proper documentation.
  • Determine layout and maintain maintenance and test cell calibration schedule, if applicable.
  • Support respective SBU’s in meeting test demands and area responsibilities, including after hours as needed to support 24-hour operations, ensuring continuity of workflow.
  • Participate in and assist with the continuing personal and group/area training process.
  • May provide training/orientation to new employees.
  • Participate in internal staff meetings, committees and task force efforts as required.
  • Complete special projects and team and customer evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Assure that complete ISO documentation is maintained on all ISO or quality related activities.
  • Write needed procedures, participate in ISO related activities and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the ISO function.
