Mechanical Systems Intern

About The Position

This internship focuses on supporting the Mechanical Engineering team with testing and development of the Propellant Management System and Propellant Storage Module. The intern will be involved in hands-on work with test beds, including assembly, disassembly, and programming for data acquisition and control.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems and test bed setups.
  • Basic programming skills, specifically with Raspberry Pi.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Good organizational skills for managing parts and orders.
  • Willingness to support team needs as they arise.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with propellant systems or fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with PWM control and data plotting.
  • Familiarity with the University of Washington Propulsion team's work.

Responsibilities

  • Find pieces of the Propellant Management System test bed.
  • Reassemble the Propellant Management System test bed to the state it was in at the end of the 2025 Summer.
  • Order mass flow controllers/meters.
  • Program the test bed Raspberry Pi to test the Lee valve in PWM mode and plot flow rate versus duty cycle.
  • Support Mechanical Engineering as needed to test Propellant Storage Module systems.
  • Support the Propulsion team at UW as needed.
