Mechanical Systems Integration Engineer

Bedrock Robotics•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

As a Mechanical Systems Integration Engineer at Bedrock Robotics, you will lead the physical integration of sensors, compute hardware, actuators, and supporting subsystems onto next-generation autonomous construction machines. You will work with electrical, software, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain teams to turn system requirements into robust mechanical designs suited to production scale, reliability, manufacturing, industrial design, and operations. Designs must withstand demanding conditions such as vibration, shock, dust, debris, and weather exposure. The role combines mechanical design and CAD documentation with packaging, environmental protection, structural and thermal considerations, supplier coordination, retrofit planning, and hands-on prototype support. You will also collaborate with field and engineering teams through machine bring-up and validation, and maintain bills of materials and integration documentation throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical design and integration for vehicles, heavy machinery, robotics, or industrial equipment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD software such as Onshape, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mounting brackets, enclosures, class A surfaces, and structural interfaces for sensors, compute units, and ancillary hardware on vehicle platforms.
  • Create detailed part and assembly models in Onshape, including GD&T-compliant drawings for fabrication and vendor sourcing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define physical routing paths for wire harnesses, fluid lines, and cooling components within tight mechanical envelopes.
  • Design and select sealing, gasketing, and IP-rated protective enclosures to protect electronics from moisture, dust, and contamination.
  • Participate hands-on in prototype builds, hardware installation, fit-check validation, and iterative design refinement on the shop floor.
  • Perform first-order hand calculations and collaborate with analysis teams to validate static loads, vibration fatigue, and thermal dissipation.
  • Coordinate with fabrication vendors and contract manufacturers to source custom brackets, enclosures, and machined components from RFQ through delivery.
  • Design non-invasive mechanical integration solutions for OEM donor vehicles that preserve factory structure and serviceability while accommodating autonomous hardware.
  • Partner with electrical, software, and field teams during bring-up and validation to resolve fit, form, and function issues on prototype machines.
  • Maintain accurate bills of materials, assembly drawings, and integration documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
