About The Position

Perform simple repair work to clean, check, inspect, repair, maintain, and install station equipment and apparatus. This role involves a range of duties from general maintenance and safety adherence to specific repair tasks on station equipment. The employee will be expected to learn and operate various tools and equipment, assist higher-classified employees, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. The position also requires willingness to train, adapt to different shifts and locations, and represent the company positively.

Requirements

Meet all general qualifications of employment.
Able to speak, understand, read, and write English.
Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Education or knowledge equivalent to satisfactory completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
Able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
Willing to become familiar with and comply with Company Safety Rules.
Possess a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles.
Willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
Willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
In good health and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, including work at heights and heavy manual labor.
Possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
Willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
Able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
Able to obtain cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with them.
Successfully complete entry level testing programs to measure job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem-solving skills.
Willing to satisfy all attendance criteria adopted by the Company pertaining to this classification.

Responsibilities

Follow all safety rules, procedures, and practices.
Direct the training of other employees in correct operating procedures.
Participate actively in training activities and report to assigned locations for training.
Carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid.
Demonstrate competency in activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections.
Watch for and promptly report any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
Perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and within capabilities, including for training purposes.
Keep all equipment, tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
Perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
Compile information and generate reports, forms, and documents as required.
Represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance, and attitude.

Perform simple work to check, inspect, repair, maintain, and install station equipment and apparatus.
Assist employees of higher classification and supply them with necessary tools, equipment, and material.
Clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material supplies and equipment.
Maintain the work area in a clean and safe condition.
Perform simple dismantling and assembly work, bolt and unbolt, wire brush, recondition, and clean parts.
Learn the proper use of hand tools, power tools, hoists, drill presses, grinders, and other tools and equipment.
Operate tools and equipment as directed.
Learn oxy-acetylene cutting and simple arc-welding.
Prepare work surfaces and areas, remove and install insulation, guards, and housings on equipment.
Set up portable extension lights and blowers as directed.
Obtain refractory brick and tile, and prepare mortar mix for furnace repairs; assist in masonry work as directed.
Remove covering and insulation, prepare surfaces for recovering, mix mortar, install same.
Assist in simple electrical and instrument repair.
Clean oil coolers, oil filters, condensers, and other station equipment.
Learn operation of equipment such as cranes, backhoes, tractors, and vacuum trucks.
Assist in lubricating station equipment.
Operate vehicles for transporting men, tools, materials, and equipment as assigned.
Assist in the erection and removal of scaffolding and rigging.
Assist, as directed, employees of any classification in carrying through work assignments.
