About The Position

The Mechanical Properties Technician for chemical and rocket motor manufacturing is responsible for performing routine mechanical properties testing of composite materials, including load frame analysis, calorimetry, and burn rate testing in support of solid rocket propellant production. This is a routine testing role focused on consistent, repeatable execution of established test methods. The position reports to the Chemical Lab Manager and is part of the Chemical Lab based in Pueblo, CO. This role is onsite based in Pueblo, CO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures consistently and accurately
  • Good data recording and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a structured, routine testing environment under the direction of a supervising chemist
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses (must be 21 years of age or older, pass pre-employment drug test, and pass State and Federal background checks)
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Parts 120–130) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) (15 CFR Parts 730–774), applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person: a US Citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3). Applicants must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in material property testing
  • Hands-on experience operating load frame, calorimeter, or similar mechanical testing equipment
  • Basic understanding of material properties including stress, strain, modulus, and break strength
  • General understanding of calorimetry principles

Responsibilities

  • Execute established mechanical properties test methods for composite materials, including load frame analysis, calorimetry, and burn rate testing, following standardized WIs and protocols.
  • Perform routine in-process and acceptance testing of materials in accordance with applicable standards and internal test procedures.
  • Record and document test data, observations, and results accurately and in a clear, organized manner, including entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Organize and compile test results into required deliverable formats, such as tables and charts, for review by supervising chemists.
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of mechanical testing equipment under the direction of a supervising chemist.
  • Follow ISO-compliant practices for data collection, retention, and documentation.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.
